Jean's father was David Brash and her mother was Margaret Easton. She had two brothers and three sisters, named David, Alexander, Margaret, Magdalene and Elisabeth.  She was the third oldest of the six children.  She died due to natural causes or old age at the age of 93 on November 15th, 1864 in Linlithgow.³
