Alexander was born on September 14th, 1780 in Linlithgow. Alexander's father was David Brash and his mother was Margaret Easton. He had a brother and four sisters, named David, Margaret, Magdalene, Jean and Elisabeth.  He was the youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 84 on August 24th, 1865 in Leith.
