Lucy SMITH
Lucy was born on May 1st, 1754 in
Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.
- Birth Notes
- Lucy Stainthorp, widow of Francis, petitioned Trinity
House for a pension in 1796. Francis was a carpenter
for many years (it says "seventy" in the original, but
surely seventeen is more likely!). For the last three
years he was carpenter on board the Union of Whitby,
Thomas Jefferson Master, in the Transport Service; and
was "taken returning from the West Indies and carried
into Brest where he died February 1798"
Presumably the date of death was added later, as it
was two years after the petition was first applied
for.
From muster rolls, we know he served as
carpenter on board the Wisk in 1792.
There is also a John Staintorp (born about 1731?) who
was a master mariner and appears both in the Whitby
Musters, and in the Trinity House petitions.
Presumably related - but how does he fit in?
She died at the age of 70 on December 31st, 1824 in
Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.
