William was born in 1866 in Normanby, Yorkshire, England.  William's father was William SAYERS and his mother was Jane BENNISON. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, George, Thomas, Jane, Fanny and Sarah.  He was the fifth oldest of the seven children.
