George was born in 1861 in Osmotherly, Yorkshire, England.  George's father was William SAYERS and his mother was Jane BENNISON. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, William, Thomas, Jane, Fanny and Sarah.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.
