Thomas was born on April 20th, 1758 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England and his baptism took place on May 16th, 1758 in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.1  Thomas' father was Thomas KIRTON and his mother was Elizabeth LAMBERT.  His maternal grandparents were Josiah LAMBERT and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Robert, Thomas, John, Mary, Ann, Elizabeth, Elizabeth and Isabella.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
