William was born in 1859 in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.  William's father was William COWEY and his mother was Mary NICHOLSON.  His paternal grandparents were James COWIN (COWEY) and Eleanor WILKINSON.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 39 in 1898 in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.
