Elizabeth was born on March 18th, 1825 in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England and her baptism took place on March 21st, 1825.1   Elizabeth's father was James COWIN (COWEY) and her mother was Eleanor WILKINSON.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward COWEN (COWEY) and Mary ARMSTRONG. She had a brother and two sisters, named William, Mary and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the four children.
