Polly was born about 1810 in Buffalo Creek Reservation, Erie, New York.  Polly's father was Chief James Joh-nes-ha-dih Indian Agent Stevenson (Seneca's Christian faction) and her mother is Ruth Two Guns.  Her paternal grandparents are Moses Stevenson (Seneca) and unk; her maternal grandparents are Chief Two Guns and Awaogoh. She has four brothers and a sister, named Jabez, Moses, Alexander, Nathaniel and Mary Ann.  She is the second oldest of the six children.
