Joseph was born on March 28th, 1743 in Chester Co PA.  Joseph's father was John Wilkins Marshall Sr and his mother was Hannah Baldwin.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Marshall and Elizabeth. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William North, John Wilkins, Benjamin Wilkins, Samuel, Hannah, Mary and Nancy.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 29 in December 1772 in Charlotte County, Virginia.
