  James Logan (1674-1751) was an Ireland-born American of Scottish descent. A statesman and scholar, he served as advisor to William Penn, and supported proprietary rights in Pennsylvania. He served colonial Mayor of Philadelphia from 1722 - 1723 and as acting governor of Pennsylvania from 1736-1738. Among his interests were botanical research.
