- James was born in VA.(260) (Additional notes for James Gunn(261)) James died 1824 in nr Pontotoc, MS.(262) He was listed as a resident in the census report in Chickasaw Nation, MS, 1818. James Gunn had been a captain of Charlotte Co., Virginia, milita in the French and Indian War. He remained among the Chickasaws until his death in the spring of 1825. A wealthy planter who read considerably in the popular books of the age, he is said to have toasted King George III every year on that monarch's birthday until his death. -- (Martini).
