John was born in 1532.  John's father was David Boswell and his mother is Janet Hamilton.  His maternal grandparents are Earl James of Arran Hamilton and Janet Beaton. He had a brother named Alexander.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 55 in 1587.
