    LUCAN, EARL OF. (BINGHAM.)
    Peer of Ireland.
    Of this ancient family, which is said to be of Sason origin, was Sir John de
    Bingham, who was seated at Bingham's Melcomb, Co. Dorset, in the reign '.:'
    HENRY 1. From him descended, in the time of King HENRY VI11.,
    Robert Bingham, whose eldest son Robert, continued the line at Melcomb, which
    still exists ; and his 4th son,
    George settled in Ireland ; he had issue, Sir Henry Bingham, of Castlebar, Co.
    Mavo, eldest son, created a Baronet of Nova Scotia in 1632 ; and John, уоипц---
    son, ancestor of Lord Clanmorris.
    Sir Charles Bingham, Bart., 4th in descent from the 1st Baronet, was created in
    1776, Baron Lucan of Castlebar, Co. Mavo; and EARL of Lvc.vx in 1795 ; ht d,
    in 1799, and was succeeded by his only sou, RICHARD, present and 2nd KARL.
