Sarah was born in 1873 in Fenton, Staffordshire.1   Sarah's father was George Lowndes and her mother was Annie Emery.  Her paternal grandparents were John Lowndes and Mary Dawson; her maternal grandparents were William Emery and Elizabeth. She had seven brothers and a sister, named William, George, John, Timothy, David, Henry, Walter and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 33 in 1906 in Staffordshire.1
