Desmond's father was Wright Gamble and his mother was Emily M Barton. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Gamble and Elizabeth Lunt. He had a brother and a sister, named John and Velma. He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 91 on May 21st, 2002 in Naples, Collier, Florida.¹
