Dena's father was Heinrich Bernhard Friederich Scharringhausen and her mother was Maria Luise Pingel.  Her paternal grandparents were Heinrich (Henry) Scharringhausen Jr and Adelheid Landmeier. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Albert, George, Ruben, Irving, Walter, Barney, Elsie, Sophia and Adeline.  She died  due to Whooping cough and diptheria.  Her burial was in Elk Grove Old Settler's cemetery on Arlington Heights road.
