Martha BRENT (Hugh'), was born in Lancaster County, Va., circa 1659, and had died by 1710, viz;
She married io Sept. 1673, Tobias Horton, son of Tobias (Sr.) and Elizabeth Taylor, relict of John Taylor (d. 1653) "Ancient Planter." Toby Horton, Sr., came to Isle of Wight County, Va., 28 May z 638, as one of the headrights of Sarah Cloyden, Widdowe (Nugent, p. 89). He was in Lancaster County, 1 Feb. 1653:
. . betwixt two maine creeks issuing out of Fleetes Bay next to land of John Taylor, dec'd, bounding S. W. upon one of the creeks dividing this from land of Eppy Bonison . . . & bounding N. E. upon the one towards the Indian Towne (Nugent, p. 289).
Tobias Horton (Sr.), 600 acs. in Northumberland County, 18 March 1662. Upon the N. part of Fleetes Bay, about a half mile up Haddawaies Creeke, granted to Thomas Humphries 1 Sept. 1654, and assigned to sd. Horton (Nugent, p. 437).
Tobias Horton (Sr.), 1200 acs. in Lancaster County, 16 June 1662 (By Francis Moryson). Between Tabb Creek and Nanty poyson Creek, issuing out of Heetes Bay . . . for transportation of 24 persons . . . lamong whom was John Coane (Nugent, p. 437)-1

Tobias Horton (Sr.), 500 acs. Lancaster County, 29 Nov. 1652. 200 acs. part upon the Southerrnost side of Fleets Bay, abutting N. upon a creek dividing this and land of Hump. Tabb and Easterly upon the bay. 'The remainder upon the head of the aforsd. creek. Trans. of 10 persons (Nugent, p. 263).

John 'Taylor. In the Swan, 1610. 'Of Newport News, Yeoman and Ancient Planter,' patent 10 Sept. 1624
- 'In Court 28 Nov. 1633 . . . his whole divident ? . granted him to take it up where lee shall find convenient.' In J C G C, p. 73, is found deposition of a John Taylor, aged 37 , date 23 June 1625 (Nugent, p. xxx). Tobyas Horton (Sr.), was probably a practitoner of Physicke,' viz: 'Whereas Tobyas Horton hash impleaded Walter ffleming for a debt of 300 pds. of tobacoe in casque being for ye Cure of a soare leg and whereas by oath it appears that ye sd tobacoe is not due till ye sd Cure be accomplished wch being not yet performed ye Court bath annihilated ye sd Acct and judged ye sd bill Cancelled and voyd.' (L. D. B., 1652-1657, p. 171.) Walter Fleming died shortly afterwards, whether from the treatment or the soare leg-the records are not clear. Tobias Horton, jr., died between 13 June and 1 2 Aug. 1748.
