Charles was born in 0942 in Laon, Aisne, Picardy, France.1   Charles' father was Kng Louis (d'Outremer, Transmarinus) of France IV and his mother was Gerberga of Saxony.  His paternal grandparents were Charles (The Simple) Carolingian III and Princess of England Edgiva of Wessex; his maternal grandparents were Holy Roman Emperor Henry (The Fowler) of Germany I and Saint Matilda Of Ringleheim. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Lothaire, Carloman, Louis, Henri, Matilda, Hildegarde, Raingarde and Alberade.  He was the second oldest of the nine children. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Henri, Ludwig, Alberade, Gerberga, Wiltrudede and Adelaide.  He died at the age of 52 on May 21st, 0994 in Kerker, Orlbeans, France.  He was buried in St. Servatius, Maastricht.2 2
