Lydia NORMAN ~1808 Rebecca JOHNSON 1845 Calvin Columbus NORMAN Eli Dixie NORMAN Laura MURPHY Earl Dixie NORMAN Earl David NORMAN ~1832 William NORMAN 1834 1838 Greenbury NORMAN Green lived with his parents before the war.  He volunteered at Surry on 5/20/1861, when he was 23 years old.  He had pneumonia from 2/27/1862 to 4/14/1862.  Taken prisoner by the enemy 7/4/1862 at White House, VA., He was POW at Ft. Monroe, VA. until sent to James River, VA., Aiken's Landing, where he was exchanged 8/5/1862.  From Jan to Feb. in 1865, he was an ambulance driver.  He was at the surrender at Appomattox Court House, Va. on 4/9/1865, where he took the Oath of Allegiance. NORMAN ~1838 Elizabeth NORMAN Abt 1839 1840 Cintha NORMAN ~1842 - 1 Jan 1861-1862 Richard Dickerson NORMAN Richard volunteered in one of the first Surry groups to organize for the Civil War.  He died less than 7 mo. later on 1/1/1862 of chronic diarrhea at a Charlottesville, VA. hospital where he had gone on Christmas Eve.

His father, James, filed for his pay on 10/1/1862.

~1849 Hardin NORMAN Listed as a female. 1840 - 1912 Preston NORMAN 72 72 Volunteered at Surry 5/20/1861 in one of the first groups to organize in the county for the war.  He served as a nurse at hospitals and later as a division guard.  He suffered a wound to his left hand on 6/3/1864 at Cold Harbor, VA. and some of the fingers on that hand were amputated.  He took the Oath of Allegiance at Appomattox Court House on 4/9/1865.

1844 - 1935 Emma ROBERTSON 91 91 1842 - 1862 Henry F. NORMAN 20 20 He was killed at Winchester, VA., when Gen. Stonewall Jackson attacked Federal positions there.  His father William H. Norman, filed for his pay on 4/6/1863.

There are 5 children in the household: Son George Norman at age 19, born in Tennessee, and working as a 'Laborer'; Son Jesse D. Norman at age 17, born in Tennessee, and working as a 'Laborer'; Daughter Mary J. Norman at age 15, born in Tennessee; Son Joseph H. Norman at age 11, born in Indiana; and Daughter America C. The next oldest person in the household is James B. Harrison [perhaps a brother to Sarah A. Harrison Norman] at age 44, who is a 'Doctor'. Both Sarah Harrison Norman and James Harrison were born in Tennessee. Sarah's oldest son, Porter Norman, [full name George W. P. Norman] is age 28 and was also born in Tennessee, and works as a 'Farm Laborer'. Son Joseph Norman is age 20, works as a 'Farm Laborer' and was born in Indiana. Daughter America Norman is age 18, does 'Domestic' work, and was born in Indiana. Sarah Norman's household also includes 2 children whose's relationship to Sarah Norman is not known: George W. Rule is age 10, and Laura Rule is age 7, and both of the Rule children were born in Indiana.
