They lived on a plantation in Albermarle Co.

Alabaster slab in chancel shows the figures of a man in civilian's dress, his wife in a french cap and brocaded petticoat, and nine children below them, apparently three boys and six girls.  "Here lieth the bodies of George Abney esquire and Ellene his wife deceased the first day of March in the year of our Lord God 1578 and the said Ellene deceaded in the III day of December in the year of our Lord God MXVCLXXI"
