Gilbert de Segrave 
Gilbert was born in 1220 in Seagrave, Leicestershire, England.1 Gilbert's father was Stephen de Segrave and his mother was Rohesia de Spencer. His paternal grandparents were Lord of Segrave Gilbert de Segrave and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Thomas le de Spencer and Rohaise de Segrave de Vere. He was an only child. He died at the age of 34 on October 8th, 1254 in Pons in Poitou.1 General Notes
He was at Bordeaux in August 1254, but, having obtained letters of safe-conduct from Louis IX, started home through Poitou early in September, in company with John dd Plessis and William Mauduit. The party was treacherously seized by the citizens of Pons in Poitou; Segrave died in captivity, and John de Plessis was not released till the following year.
GILBERT de Segrave (-Pons, Poitou before 8 Oct 1254). Henry III King of England ordered "Stephano de Sedgrave" to surrender "Novum Castrum super Linam quod G. filius vester tenet" by letter dated 14 Jun 1234[798]. The Annals of Dunstable record that “Gilbertus de Segrave” died in 1254 in the prison of “Reginaldi de Puns in partibus transmarinis”[799]. m (before 20 Sep 1231) as her first husband, AMABIL, daughter of ROBERT de Chaucombe & his wife --- (-bur Chaucombe Priory).
