Roger was born in 1171 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.1   Roger's father was John FitzRichard Clavering de Lacy and his mother was Alice de Mandeville.  His paternal grandparents were Richard FitzEustace Clavering de Lacy and Albreda de Lisoures; his maternal grandparents were 1st Earl of Essex Geoffrey de Mandeville and Rohese de Vere. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Robert, Helen, Joanna and Alice.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 41 in 1212 in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England.  He was buried in Abbey Stanlaw.2 1
