Hartly S. was born in May 1886 in Rockingham Co, NC. Hartly S.'s father was George Washington Sawyers and his mother was Bertha Parsada Roberts. His maternal grandparents were Nebuchanezer Roberts and Mary A. Floyd. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James W., Robert C., Roy A., Samuel M., Fannie E., Annie B. and Mattie L.. He was the third oldest of the eight children.General Notes
