John L was born in 1826 in Hardin County, KY. John L's father was Marshall SCOTT and his mother was Nancy READ. His paternal grandparents were James Scott and Elenor PREECE (PRICE). He had four brothers and four sisters, named James W, Sirus Reed (Cyrus), Milton David, Philip Reed, Rachel Melvina, Margarett "Mary" J, Lydia E and Lucretia. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 34 on October 19th, 1860 in LaRue County, KY. He was buried in Red Hill Cemetery, LaRue, KY.Death Notes
