Martha J. C. was born on September 1st, 1860 in Talladega Co, AL. Martha J. C.'s father was Willis B. Roberts and her mother was Martha P. Jones. Her paternal grandparents were Willis B. Roberts and Nancy Marcom. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Micajah H., William Richard, Columbus D., Walter, Luther Marvin, Mary Genora, Winnifred Udora and Sarah.
