George A. was born in 1846 in Rockingham Co, NC. George A.'s father was George W. Roberts and his mother was Janette Strong. His paternal grandparents were James Roberts and Susannah Thomas. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Robert S., James M., William M., Elizabeth, Susan M., Martha Arrena, Lucy J. F. and Mary Virginia.
