Charles, known as The Simple, was born on September 17th, 0879 in Orleans, Neustria, France.1   The Simple's father was Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Louis (The German) Roman II and his mother was Luitgarde of Saxony.  His paternal grandparents were Holy Roman Emperor Lothair Roman I and Countess Ermengarde de Tours; his maternal grandparents were Count Liudolf (The Great) of East Saxony and Oda Billung. He had a half-sister named Trungard.  He died at the age of 50 on October 7th, 0929 in Peronne, Somme, France.  He was buried in L'abbaye de St-Fursy, Peronne, Somme, France.2 3
