Duncan, known as The Gracious, was born in 1013 in Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland.1   The Gracious' father was Abbot of Dunkeld Crinan Atholl and his mother was Bethoc of Scotland.  His paternal grandparents were Mormaer of Athole Duncan of Mormaer and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Malcolm of Scotland II and Edith de Ossory. He had a brother named Maldred.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died  due to killed by Macbeth at Elgin at the age of 27 on August 14th, 1040 in Iona, Elgin, Scotland.  He was buried in Icolmkill.2 1
