Mary Jane was born in 1837 in Lafayette Co, Arkansas, USA. Mary Jane's father was Collin McKinney Akin and her mother was Lucinda J Watson. Her paternal grandparents were William (Bill) Collin Akin and Rebecca (Becky) McKinney. She had three brothers and two sisters, named David, William, John Watson, Martha Jane and Nancy Ann. She was the third oldest of the six children. She had five half-brothers and four half-sisters, named James Franklin, Collin McKinney, William C, Robert Jackson, Richard, Mattie, Rebecca Elizabeth, Emma and Ellie.-
