Leopold, known as The Illustrious, was born in 0931.1   The Illustrious' father was Arnulf of Bavaria and his mother was Judith von Sulichgau.  His paternal grandparents were Margrave Liutpold of Nordgau and Kungunde of Swabia; his maternal grandparents were Count Eberhard of Friuli and Ermentrude France. He had three brothers and a sister, named Arnulf, Heinrich, Berthold and Judith.  He was the fourth oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 53 in 0984.2
