Albert was born in 1880 in Cuckfield, Sussex.1  Albert's father was Edwin Steer and his mother was Mary Ann Spooner.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Steer and Sarah steer. He had two brothers and five sisters, named William, Fred, Elizabeth, Emma, Sarah, Mary and Harriot.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
