Susan was born in 1855 in Billingshurst.1  Susan's father was George Steer and her mother was Charlotte. She had a brother and five sisters, named Albert, S., Mary, Catharine, Margeret and Fanny.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 26 in 1881.2
