Olive was born in 1872 in Slinfold Sussex.1  Olive's father was David Steer and her mother was Mary Ann Greenfield.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Steer and Mary. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Jesse, Henry, William, Alice and Rosa.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
