Nora was born in 1899 in North Chapel, Sussex.1  Nora's father was George Stear and her mother was Julia.  Her paternal grandparents were William Steer and Mary Cobby. She had five brothers named William, George, Leonard, Gilbert and Riley.  She was the youngest of the six children.
