Margaret was born in 1872 in Chelsea, Middlesex.1  Margaret's father was William Steer and her mother was Margaret.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Steer and Elizabeth. She had three sisters named Betsy, Mary and Florence.  She was the third oldest of the four children.
