Lydia was born in 1874 in Midhurst, sussex.1  Lydia's father was Thomas Steer and her mother was Harriett Ward. She had five brothers and six sisters, named George, Thomas, Charlie, Joseph, Alfred, Kate, Bessie, Annie, Lydia, Harty and Bessie.
