Henry, known as George, was born in 1856 in Godalming and his baptism took place there on December 14th, 1856.1 2  George's father was John Steer and his mother was Sarah. He had four brothers and a sister, named Albert, Charles, Alfred, George and Ann.  He was the youngest of the six children.
