Harriot was born in 1819 and her baptism took place on September 26th, 1819 in Lurgashall.1  Harriot's father was William Steer and her mother was Elizabeth steer.  Her paternal grandparents are James Steer and Elizabeth Rapson. She had two brothers and four sisters, named James, William, Sarah, Martha, Eliza and Emma.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
