Hannah was born on September 11th, 1815 in Wisborough Green, Sussex and her baptism took place there on October 8th, 1815.1   Hannah's father was Henry Steer and her mother was Lydia Etherton. She had six brothers and two sisters, named James, Richard, Henry, Edward, Job, Zebedee, Elizabeth and Mary.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
