Ethel was born in 1878 in Earley.1   Ethel's father was Edward James Steer and her mother was Harriet.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Steer and Jane Smith. She had four brothers named Arthur, Robert, Edward and William.  She was the youngest of the five children.
