Ethel was born in 1882 in Croydon Surrey.1   Ethel's father was Reuben Steer and her mother was Anna Horn.  Her paternal grandparents were Charles Steer and Ann Mariner. She had two sisters named Lois and Eunice.  She was the second oldest of the three children.
