Emma was born in 1870 in Llanfwrog, Denbighshire.1  Emma's father was John Steer and her mother was Ellen White. She had four brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Edwin, Robert, Alice and Elizabeth.  She was the sixth oldest of the seven children.
