Christopher was born in 1891 in Billingshurst.1  Christopher's father was Albert Steer and his mother was Edith.  His paternal grandparents were George Steer and Charlotte. He had two brothers and five sisters, named George, William, Charlotte, Alice, Edith, Catherine and Fanny.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.
