Catherine was born in 1897 in West Chiltington.1  Catherine's father was Albert Steer and her mother was Edith.  Her paternal grandparents were George Steer and Charlotte. She had three brothers and four sisters, named George, William, Christopher, Charlotte, Alice, Edith and Fanny.  She was the seventh oldest of the eight children.
