Benjamin was born in 1824 in Petworth and his baptism took place there on February 8th, 1824.1 2  Benjamin's father is Benjamin Steer and his mother is Elizabeth Dillaway. He had a brother and a sister, named William and Maria.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 55 in 1879.
