Annie was born in 1882 in Kirdford, Sussex.1  Annie's father was James Steer and her mother was Elizabeth.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Steer and Mary Puttock. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Edward, James, Elizabeth, Ruth and Lydia.  She was the fourth oldest of the six children.
