Alice was born in 1889 in Lancing, Sussex.1   Alice's father was William Steer and her mother was Sarah.  Her paternal grandparents are <Unknown> and Emma steer. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Frederick, Frank, Fanny, Martha and Emma.  She was the youngest of the six children.
