Mary was born in 1833.1  Mary's father was George Meachin and her mother was Eliza Steer.  Her maternal grandfather is John Steer and her maternal grandmother was Mary Standage. She had three sisters named Emma, Jane and Eliza.  She was the second oldest of the four children.
