Charles' father was John Wild and his mother was Hannah Dodgson (of Thorner).  His maternal grandparents were Matthew Dodgson (of Shadwell & Tadcaster) and Eleanor Thompson. He had six brothers and three sisters, named John, William, James, Samuel, George, Frederick, Anne, Eliza and Hannah.  He was the second youngest of the ten children. He had a half-sister named Ellen.  He died at the age of 54 in 1883.
